In older days Lowry City was also known as "The Pride of the Prairie"
The city was platted in March 1871 and named in May 1871 by John Hancock.
The post office has been in operation since 1871. J.P. Wright was the first postmaster.
Original homestead entry records from 1857 show where the original town was platted, was entered for homestead by Edwin Reed, John Barnett and Thomas N. Hensley.
Lowry City is defined less by boundaries on a map than by the sense of shared values our residents hold dear.
Small town values, guided growth, preservation of historical, cultural, and natural heritage are just a few of the core principles that makes the City of Lowry City a wonderful place to call home.

Mark your calendar!! Marty the Magician is returning to the St. Clair County Library for the Annual Magic Show on Tuesday, April 15th. The performance at the Lowry City Branch is scheduled to start at 7pm. An earlier performace is slated for 5:30 pm at the Main Library in Osceola. This event is open to patrons of all ages and is co-sponsored by: Parents As Teachers, the Friends of the St. Clair County Library, and the St. Clair County Library.
