City Ordinances and Zoning Information

City ordinances are local laws or regulations put in place to manage affairs within its jurisdiction. These ordinances address matters not already covered by state or federal laws and have the same legal weight as state statutes within the municipality's limits. 
In Missouri, the Revised Statutes grant cities the power to create ordinances for purposes such as:
  • Good governance.
  • Maintaining peace and good order.
  • Promoting trade and commerce.
  • Protecting the health of the inhabitants.
  • General welfare.
